Passionate, dedicated, and extremely personable, Dr. Nick Pournaras, D.M.D., makes the quest for a beautiful smile both successful and fun. His love for people is matched only by his energy and enthusiasm for dentistry. Dr. Pournaras relishes opportunity and challenge, and he will work with unparalleled commitment to help each patient achieve his or her dental goals.
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Dr. Pournaras pursued his dental studies at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Deeply committed to continuing education, Dr. Pournaras constantly enhances his knowledge by participating in courses throughout the country. His active role in continuing his studies has kept him abreast of the latest advances in the dental field.
Aside from his own education, Dr. Pournaras enjoys teaching others. He has lectured at local schools, providing young people with information about a career in dentistry. Dr. Pournaras is privileged to work with Master Ceramist Wayne Payne, located in Southern California. Their collaboration over the years has produced a genuine friendship and a passion for cosmetics that is evident and unique in each and every case. Together they have partnered over the years and have created thousands of new smiles for our patients.
Dr. Pournaras is an active participant in the dental community. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the South Carolina Dental Association and Generation Next (Genr8TNEXT). He is also involved in the Greater Columbia Dental Association and other local study clubs and dental organizations.
Dr. Pournaras is a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He currently resides in Columbia with his wife, Kelli, and their two daughters Zoe and Rea.

Barbara was born and raised in New Jersey. She has been married to her husband Russ for twenty-eight years and they have two wonderful daughters Brianne and Rachel. They have called South Carolina home for the last twenty-two years. Barbara received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting from William Paterson University. She has worked in this practice for the last twelve years. Barbara serves as the Treatment Coordinator assisting patients with their insurance claims and financial arrangements. She always looks forward to helping patients maximize their insurance benefits and financially plan to lift their smile. |
Amy grew up in Lexington, South Carolina. She and her husband Willis married in June of 2007. Together with their daughter Karlyn they have chosen West Columbia, South Carolina to be their home. Amy has been with the Columbia Smiles team since May of 2004. As the patient consultant of the practice, Amy schedules appointments that are most convenient with their schedule. Amy is also the marketing consultant for the Columbia Smiles team. We now market in Lake Murray, Jolie and Carolina Bride magazine, and have had amazing results. She enjoys taking final portrait photos of our patients that have had their smiles cosmetically enhanced. She is very excited about the astonishing transformations of the practice and look forward to seeing more remarkable results. |
Angie was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and has called Columbia her home for the past thirty years. Angie is the proud parent of her two sons, Michael and Hunter. Angie earned an Associates Degree at the Fashion Merchandising College of Columbia in 1984. Angie chose a career in dentistry to better benefit her family needs. She has been a clinical assistant at our office for the past eighteen years, and also serves as the Laboratory Coordinator in which she assists Dr. Nick in preparing each case individually. Angie is the Whitening Treatment Specialist in our office with extensive training in "Zoom" whitening. Together, Dr. Nick and Angie provide a level of expertise that is truly unique and unforgettable. |

Virginia is from Orangeburg, South Carolina and moved to Columbia in 2001. She now resides in Irmo, with her husband Larry, and their two pugs, Lucy and Linus. Virginia graduated in 2004 from Midlands Technical College with an Associate of Health Science in Dental Hygiene, and is a member of the ADHA. Virginia is a dental therapist for the Soft Tissue Management Program. She is committed to educating and treating patients with a fun, relaxed approach to dentistry in order to help them maintain optimal oral health. |
Elaine is a native of Cayce, South Carolina. She and her husband Kevin recently moved home to South Carolina after he retired from the Air Force. They are the parents of three wonderful children Brittany, Kevin Jr., and Alex. Elaine is a certified Nursing Assistant and received a Dental Assistant certificate from the Academy of Dental Technology in 2004. As a member of the Columbia Smiles team she serves as a Patient Concierge providing patients with exceptional courtesy to make their dental experience enjoyable in a relaxed atmosphere. She enjoys her new career and looks forward to many smiles and years in the dental field. She has been with our practice since September 2004. |
Monica has lived in Lexington, South Carolina all of her life, where she has recently built her new home. Outside of dental hygiene, she enjoys decorating her new home and spending quality time with her friends and family. Monica graduated from Midland's Technical College in 2000 with a Health and Science Major and a Minor in the Dental Assisting Program. Her first career in the dental profession was in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She continued her education by becoming a graduate of Dental Hygiene in 2003. Monica has been apart of the Columbia Smiles Team as a Hygienist since February 2007. She has a passion for dentistry and dedicates herself to her patients and her practice. |
