Passionate, dedicated, and extremely personable, Dr. Nick Pournaras, D.M.D., makes the quest for a beautiful smile both successful and fun. His love for people is matched only by his energy and enthusiasm for dentistry. Dr. Pournaras relishes opportunity and challenge, and he will work with unparalleled commitment to help each patient achieve his or her dental goals.
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Dr. Pournaras pursued his dental studies at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Deeply committed to continuing education, Dr. Pournaras constantly enhances his knowledge by participating in courses throughout the country. His active role in continuing his studies has kept him abreast of the latest advances in the dental field.
Aside from his own education, Dr. Pournaras enjoys teaching others. He has lectured at local schools, providing young people with information about a career in dentistry. Dr. Pournaras is privileged to work with Master Ceramist Wayne Payne, located in Southern California. Their collaboration over the years has produced a genuine friendship and a passion for cosmetics that is evident and unique in each and every case. Together they have partnered over the years and have created thousands of new smiles for our patients.
Dr. Pournaras is an active participant in the dental community. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the South Carolina Dental Association and Generation Next (Genr8TNEXT). He is also involved in the Greater Columbia Dental Association and other local study clubs and dental organizations.
Dr. Pournaras is a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He currently resides in Columbia with his wife, Kelli, and their two daughters Zoe and Rea.

Barbara was born and raised in New Jersey. She has been married to her husband Russ since April 1979. Together with their two wonderful daughters Brianne and Rachel, they have called South Carolina home since 1989. Barbara received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting from William Paterson University. She has been apart of the Columbia Smiles team since January 1996. Barbara serves as the Treatment Coordinator assisting patients with their insurance claims and financial arrangements. Our practice now offers Care Credit financing which has up to twelve months no interest options to qualified applicants. She always looks forward to helping patients maximize their insurance benefits and financially plan to lift their smile. |
I grew up in Lexington South Carolina. My husband Willis and I have been happily married since June 2007. We have been blessed with two beautiful children Karlyn and Parker, and enjoy watching them grow everyday. I have been apart of this rewarding team at Columbia Smiles since May 2004 and thoroughly enjoy spending time with all of our patients on a daily basis. As the patient liaison for Columbia Smiles I find pleasure in scheduling patients for all of their treatment needs, taking care of our web design, and take pride in marketing our practice as well. We are currently advertising on WISTV.com and Dr. Doctor magazine. Our marketing teams are awesome and so much fun to work with. Photography is definitely one of my passions, and I look forward to taking final portraits of the team and our patients who have had their smiles cosmetically enhanced. I am so excited about the remarkable transformations here at Columbia Smiles and look forward to more amazing results! |
Angie was born in Asheville NC and has made Columbia her home. She is married to Joe and they enjoy spending time outdoors and take every opportunity they can to spend time with their three sons Whitney, Michael and Hunter. Angie has been a part of the Columbia Smiles team since September 1988. She received her associates degree in Fashion Merchandising College of Columbia but chose a career in dentistry to better benefit her family needs. Angie is Dr.Nicks chair-side assistant and together they provide a level of expertise that is unique and unforgettable. She also is our lab coordinator and oversees our cases and handles all communications with our labs. Angie has had extensive training in Zoom whitening and is our Zoom whitening specialist . Dentistry has become her passion and she truly enjoys the transformations that take place with her patients. |

Virginia is from Orangeburg, South Carolina and moved to Columbia in 2001. She now resides in Irmo, with her husband Larry, and their two pugs, Lucy and Linus. Virginia graduated in 2004 from Midlands Technical College with an Associate of Health Science in Dental Hygiene, and is a member of the ADHA. Virginia is a dental therapist for the Soft Tissue Management Program. She is committed to educating and treating patients with a fun, relaxed approach to dentistry in order to help them maintain optimal oral health. |
Elaine and her husband Kevin retired and returned to Columbia after he served twenty-three years in the Air Force. She is a native of Cayce, and enjoys being home. They are the parents of three adult children Brittany, Kevin Jr. and Alex along with their special pet dog Sonic. Elaine attended Ft. Walton Beach Technical College where she received her certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Florida. She also received a Dental Assistant certificate from the Academy of Dental Technology from Virginia Beach, Virginia. She joined the Columbia Smiles team in August of 2004 as the Hygiene Coordinator, but currently as a Clinical Assistant. She enjoys providing patients with exceptional courtesy to make their dental experience enjoyable in a relaxed atmosphere. |
Monica joined our team in February 2007. She has been in the dental profession since 1999. She started her dental career as a Dental Assistant with a major in Health and Science. She went to work in the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery field where she fell in love with meeting the needs of patients through health care. Monica went back to school where she continued her education with a major in Dental Hygiene. Monica now resides in Charleston, but continues to travel to Columbia because of the love she has not only for the Columbia Smiles team but also her patients. Columbia Smiles has become her home. Monica has personal goals set to educate herself in the Dental Field. She enjoys giving her patients the best treatment and cutting edge information to help them obtain a healthy, beautiful smile. |
